In trucking industry, deadheads are usually described as a distance between the last delivery stop and the next pickup stop.
Main deadhead use cases
In the situation, when the driver has finished his order and does not have a next order assigned, the driver manager can tell the driver to go to another town and maybe there will be some orders available for pickup.
Another use case is when the driver goes for a home time. Deadhead shows this information which allows the planner to have a full view on the available drivers in the area.
